AP Award winning Investigative Journalist Dave Elias joined the NBC-2 Investigative Unit in August 2012 as the lead investigator. Dave brings more than three decades of experience to the team. During his 34 year career he has covered nearly every story imaginable including the 9-11 attack on America as well as dozens of political stories in Washington, DC. and an exclusive interviews with Presidents Obama and Trump.
Dave is now the NBC-2 Chief Political Correspondent.
Before moving to Florida, Dave served as an investigator on the West Virginia Media I-Team. He joined a team of five reporters assigned to investigate and expose alleged corruption in the mountain state for WTRF-TV, WOWK-TV, WBOY-TV, WVNS-TV all part of the network.
Dave came to the sunshine state from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he worked in the nearby Wheeling-Steubenville television market for WTRF-TV & FOX Ohio Valley. In 2009 Dave gained national recognition for his reporting by uncovering details that lead to two Ohio Police Chiefs being arrested for plotting a break in at the home of the surrogate mother for famed actress Sarah Jessica Parker. National news agencies later relied on Dave's reporting throughout the later trial.
During his tenure Dave has interviewed President Barack Obama in Ohio. Dave's aggressive style of reporting has taken him to Washington, D.C., and New York City for investigations.
In 2002 as New York was healing from the 9-11 attacks Dave traveled there to unveil his two-part series on how Ohio and West Virginia steel mills supplied the steel to rebuild the world trade center.
During his 33 years in the business Dave has anchored, produced and served as a bureau chief. Beginning his career in radio Dave has worked for KQV radio in Pittsburgh as an Ohio Correspondent and WOMP radio in Bellaire, Ohio.
His career began at WSTV/WRKY in Steubenville where he both anchored the news and even hosted his own radio show, " The Voice of the Valley."
His dream as a child was to someday be a radio and TV reporter. He pursued that track through high school and at the college level while majoring in broadcast telecommunications at Salem University in West Virginia.
